Meldon, Northumberland : ウィキペディア英語版 | Meldon, Northumberland
Meldon, Northumberland is a village in Northumberland, England. It lies to the west of Morpeth. The village is one of the 51 Thankful Villages in the United Kingdom that suffered no fatalities during the Great War of 1914-1918.〔It is not strictly true that Meldon did not lose anyone in the 1914-18 war. George Alder Eamens, a native of Meldon, was killed. His details can be found on the War Graves Commission website. However he served in the Australian army, having previously emigrated. It can, therefore, be argued that he went to war from Australia and, had he survived, he would have returned to Australia. Nevertheless, some villages, e.g. Bamburgh, do acknowledge and include on their war memorials the names of former residents who had emigrated.〕
